Standard Bank selects Caplin Trader for multi-asset online trading
Caplin is delighted that the corporate and investment banking division of Standard Bank, the largest bank in Africa, has chosen Caplin to provide the framework for its new single-dealer platform (SDP).
With many of the bank's corporate and institutional clients wanting more sophisticated electronic trading and other online services, Standard Bank decided to seize the initiative and provide both its customers and its own traders with a scalable next generation web-based platform complete with prices, analysis and the ability to execute in multiple asset classes.
James Nicolson, Standard Bank's Head of eCommerce IT (Corporate and Investment Banking), said "The growth of the internet in Africa determined that online was the only way to go, but we needed to be able to handle the diverse infrastructure capabilities of Developing and Developed markets. We evaluated several technologies but decided on Caplin Trader as it offered a cost effective solution that lets us build a high-performance, robust SDP that's designed to minimise network traffic and provide excellent resilience."

The winners of the Sell-Side Technology Awards will be announced, and the awards presented, at a dinner on April 23 at the New York Marriott Marquis at 1535 Broadway, Manhattan, NYC. This dinner follows the North American Trading Architecture Summit at the same venue (see article below).

Caplin to sponsor four Waters Technology events
We're pleased to announce that we'll be sponsoring, exhibiting and speaking at four upcoming 2013 Waters Technology tradeshows starting with the North American Trading Architecture Summit (NATAS), that takes place in New York on April 23. NATAS has been running for three years and each year Caplin has participated in panels covering topical issues in electronic trading.
This year, Caplin CTO Patrick Myles will kick things off at NATAS by taking part in the 10:50 am panel: Electronic trading: game-changing platforms and strategies.
Please contact us if you'd like to meet during NATAS.
The other three Waters Technology events at which Caplin will be exhibiting and speaking are:
- Asia Pacific Trading Architecture Summit: Singapore, June 27
- European Trading Architecture Summit: London, November 19
- Waters USA: New York, December 9
Caplin is going to be at several other industry tradeshows during the forthcoming year - details of those will be published in the next edition of Caplin Cable when we've confirmed arrangements with the organisers.
An exciting new development - Caplin Labs opened on Friday, March 22nd.
Designed to show off the new ideas that go beyond our project work and product development, Caplin Labs is a unique online space for us to showcase novel ideas and concepts to a wider audience. Caplin Labs will feature a selection of lab projects we have worked on; visitors can view, download and engage with various ideas and concepts.
Some lab projects will be complete and carefully tested, whereas others will be more experimental and conceptual.
Already visitors can download and play with lab projects locally; the next phase of Caplin Labs will allow visitors to open and launch apps running in the Caplin Labs environment.
