Getting started with the RET Adapter Suite

The RET Adapter Suite serves as a ready-made starting point for you to get up and running quickly, using prebuilt RET Integration Adapters.

Overview

The Adapter Suite contains a range of various adapters - each is designed to integrate a specific set of RET functionality or data. Included with the RET Adapter Suite, is the RET Adapter Toolkit that provides you with a platform along with all the tools you need to create your own adapters from scratch.

For more information on out-of-box functionality supplied with the RET Adapter Suite and RET Adapter Toolkit, take a look at the Architectural Overview.

The documentation in this Getting Started section is intended to help you set up and install the RET Adapter Suite across a two-system environment, with the Adapter Suite on one system and an SCS Relay on the other.  See below for more information on installing or creating your own adapters.

All examples in the RET Adapter documentation are designed to support failover between two sets of Liberator, Transformer and Adapters. The examples do not support load balancing, failover with more than two legs, or internal/external Liberators.

Using the pre-built adapters

In the Getting Started section you will find various pages that will help you set up, install and deploy the RET Adapters into a live environment. You will also find help on modifying adapter behaviour and configuring permissions when registering users to trade or view prices streamed via a RET system.

Installing the RET Adapter Suite

There are four parts to the installation guide.

  1. Installing the RET Adapter Suite
    1. In the first part of the installation guide, you will install and set up each of the Adapters in the RET Adapter Suite. The Adapter Suite consists of a set of integration adapter blades that connect to your SCS Relay to supply market data from a Reuters Electronic Trading system to Caplin's back-end components. Take a look at the Architectural Overview page in the Features and Concepts section to understand how the Adapter Suite works with your RET environment and Caplin's technology stack.
  2. [optional] Adding users and permissions
    1. Here you will find useful information on how to add and permission users to access RET functionality facilitated by the Adapters. Within each of the Adapters there are specific permissions configuration files that you can use to edit or assign various permissions for users. You will understand how the various config options operate, and how to apply them.
  3. Connecting to Live RET Data
    1. Here you learn how to connect your adapters to your RET instance.
  4. Configuring your Adapters
    1. You can use the RET Adapter Toolkit to begin creating your own Adapters from scratch using the provided API, example config included with the Toolkit and the ‘How can I Create an Adapter’ tutorial. The Toolkit itself contains adapter examples, complete with an extensive array of various extension points that give you the flexibility to create and modify an adapter to your own specifications. These extension points give you the flexibility to add additional RET trading features such as Block Trading, post-trade allocations and more.
