We currently have an immediate vacancy for a DevOps Engineer who can help us take our build and release engineering practices to the next level. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual wanting to bring their skills to an organisation at the leading edge of web-based trading technology at the beginning of their journey to offer fully managed services to their customers.

We offer flexibility in working from the office, home or other locations, but some regular time working in the office in London will be expected for this role. Caplin’s head office is in London and we are currently working remotely. 

The role

As a DevOps Engineer you will work as part of a new team to improve developer efficiency. Especially to implement and enhance our Gitlab build infrastructure, utilising Containers and Kubernetes to provide high levels of availability and observability.

We want to ensure that our engineering teams will experience the best and most efficient build experience. You will advise and assist them to create efficient gitlab builds. As well as monitoring the build systems, and being a source of best practice on all things build. In addition, when not working directly with the teams or resolving issues the team will be responsible for the continuous improvement of our systems, Infrastructure as code, and establishing an efficient developer experience as a whole.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing, structuring, planning and strategising around migrating to Kubernetes, Gitlab, and Linux, Windows, Mac build agents on gitlab.
  • Work with the infrastructure team to quickly respond to build failure issues
  • Continuously improve our ability to detect, resolve and avoid future issues with the build environment either by utilising third party software or building custom tools where necessary
  • Educating engineering teams on the most effective ways to use our build environment, and the best practices they should use with our preferred tools
  • You will establish clear policies, templates and standards for build automation. Incorporating self healing practices wherever possible

You should apply if:

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven track record delivering and maintaining a heterogenous build environment
  • Hands on experience configuring and managing Gitlab making use of tools such as Kubernetes, Containers, Ansible, Packer, Terraform
  • Experience deploying services on Kubernetes
  • Experience managing and monitoring systems and responding to alerts
  • Experience with Docker and container orchestration
  • Comfortable working with Linux variants and the command line
  • Strong communication skills
  • Detail oriented
  • Proven ability in a recognised programming language (e.g. javascript, python, java)
  • Proactive and self-improving

Other desirable skills:

  • Kubernetes certifications such as Certified Kubernetes Application Developer or Certified Kubernetes Administrator
  • Development experience with web technologies and the ability to create custom tooling as required
  • Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure as code frameworks
  • AWS certifications at foundational, associate, professional or speciality tiers
  • Knowledge or experience of Jenkins, Chef, Infrastructure as Code
