Caplin @ JAX London 2017

Just like last year, this October Caplin attended JAX London – the ‘Conference for Java & Software Innovation’.

JAX 2017 at the Business Design Centre in Angel, London

The main theme of this year’s conference revolved around Oracle’s recent release of Java 9 and its introduction of modules to the Java platform. Modules, as promised by Project Jigsaw for quite some time, present a substantial shift in the way the JVM is packaged and delivered – with varying implications for existing Java projects.

Watch this space next week for further blog entries regarding Java 9.

Will Java 9 break my code?

Outside of modules, one interesting talk discussed programming language alternatives on the JVM. The keen reader of this blog will know that Caplin has started experimenting with Kotlin for internal code. We are pleased to report that a well-known figure in programming literature – Dr Russel Winder – has given Kotlin his approval.

Dr Russel Winder passionately arguing for dropping Java in favour of Kotlin or Ceylon

Furthermore, we witnessed talks on all things Blockchain and DevOps, and we experienced delightful diversions, such as a project attempting to port over the source code of the game Doom 3 to Java.
